Description: Technology Education's Development in Primary and Secondary Schools in China - Jianjun Gu is a professor with the School of Educational Science of Nanjing Normal University in China, where he has taught since 1988. He serves as Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy President of School of Education Science. His area of specialization is Technical Education and Vocational Education, especially General Technology in Chinese high schools. He is the Leader of Experts Group of General High School TCS and compiled General Technology’s teaching material in Chinese high schools. Additionally, Professor Gu serves as an organizer of General Technology teacher training in many Chinese provinces. He has published many books, including Analysis and Implementation Strategy of General Technology in High SchoolConcepts and Education Practice of Technology on High School New Curriculum. His new book Technology Education Classics is due to be released soon.

Featured Speaker: Dr. Aaron Clark, Professor of Technology, Design, and Engineering Education, North Carolina State University.

Description: This breakfast is a celebration of excellence and recognition of outstanding individuals who are destined to become the next generation of leaders in the profession. The main presenter will be Aaron Clark, who will speak on the topic of “Excellence” from his perspective as a national leader with considerable experience in our profession. Dr. Clark is Professor of Technology, Design, and Engineering Education and Director of Graduate Programs and Associate Department Chair at North Carolina State University. He has worked in both industry and education at various levels. His teaching specialties are in visual theory, 3-D modeling, technical animation, and STEM-based pedagogy. Research areas include graphics education, game art and design, and scientific/technical visualization. He presents and publishes in both technical/technology education and engineering and has won numerous awards for his research. He has been and continues to be a Principle Investigator on a variety of grants related to technology education and has focused his funded research in areas related to STEM curricula integration. Dr. Clark currently serves as Chair of the Design Graphics Division of ASEE. He has served in various leadership roles in disciplines related to Career and Technical Education. He consults to a variety of businesses, educational agencies, and organizations and is currently working with the global education initiative.

Featured Speaker: Christine Purcell, SPHR, Technical Human Capital Development, Engineering & Manufacturing Support, Salient Federal Solutions

Description: Christine Purcell is currently employed by Salient Federal Solutions providing process optimization, engineering strategic planning, manufacturing, quality, supply chain and technical workforce development support to the USAF Space and Missiles Systems Center at LAAFB in El Segundo, CA. Christine will be joined by Tom Fitzgerald, Director, Engineering Directorate at the Space and Missile Systems Center, LAAFB, El Segundo, CA. He has over 40 years of operational, engineering, and program management experience with the USAF and has been the System Program Director on several large Air Force aircraft and space programs.

At the ITEEA General Session she will be giving her perspective on the need to promote careers in manufacturing and engineering, and the importance of educators understanding the requirements of employers who are looking to them for the next generation workforce—systems, problem solving, innovation and technical skills are all critical for success in the 21st century.

Christine has over 30 years of experience implementing and supporting technology, people, and process systems in highly technical industries including aerospace, communications, and electronics at corporate clients including The Boeing Company (including Rockwell International and Hughes Aircraft Company), Northrop Grumman Corporation (including TRW), Space Systems Loral, Aerojet and others, with focus on design, engineering analysis, manufacturing, quality, supply base and logistics. She led Department of Labor technical workforce development, manufacturing and supply base programs for the California Space Authority. These programs supported both the current workforce and exposed young people to engineering and manufacturing related careers by working closely with Government, Industry, High Schools, Community Colleges and Universities. Christine has also been an independent contractor to several California school districts and private schools delivering hands-on integrated science supplemental education based on her industry experience.

Description: The Awards Dinner and Closing Ceremony recognizes the winners from the various competitions at the conference, outstanding chapters and members, as well as the accomplishments of TECA during the 2011-12 year.  A buffet dinner will be served before the awards and is included in student conference registration.  Teaching professionals and others are open to attend this special evening.
